Your masculinity is not defined by your occupation. But in high school kids a re quicker to judge and mock.
If your parents own the salon, or even work there, it will be easier to explain. If the money is good, it will offset the taunts and juvenile remarks. If you use that job to meet and date girls your friends will still tease you, but they will understand that it is not really a bad job.
Being around women all day you will hear their secrets, fears, problems wants, desires, needs and other issues. It would be wise to listen, absorb and store this information for future relationships. Don't offer advice unless solicited.

Why is it so bad you will be around nothing but women I would go with it from that angle if anyone questions you.If the money is good and so is the scenery what's so bad about that, your guys friends should take some pointers from you.
i notice that when i go get my nails done the guys are more popular. so the guys usually are prebooked and i can't get them with walk-ins.
if you're in high school i don't know if you would wanna work at a nail salon. it depends on your confidence. your friends may say something but if you don't let them get to you then they 'll get over it and could think it's cool. good luck!

I don't think it is gay at all or wierd. You just have to like chatty women! :) If you are outgoing and friendly and not rough (men do kind of tend to be a little rough), then you should make great tips.
Is there some field that you would like to go into after high school %26amp;/or college? Maybe you could get a job in a related field so that you can get a taste of what you think you may like to do.

If it's their shop -- then it's not strange at all. They pay the bills and need your help. If it's not their business then you should be able to work anywhere you want within their descretion. Find an alternative job and perhaps they will be happy with that too. Just an FYI, many local hospitals hire teenagers to work in the cafeteria or other jobs like that, such as orderly positions. you know what i know plenty of guys that go to school with me that arent gay...and you know whats funny is that they land more chicks then my other straight friends....there are less straight guys in the beauty industry...so when girls or more like grown women see one ...the lack of testosterone drives them nuts....women are drawn to men...gay or straight...asides from the men usually are more sucessful and make more money in the business...
so i say more power to you son...do what you gotta do to earn some cash ...and to anyone that makes fun of you or thinks its gay....it'll kick them in the a** one day!!

I think it's cool. If you are straight, then think of all the cute girls you can pick up. Also, you can hold their hands and they won't be upset!
it's really YOUR choice, n only you can make your own decisions n follow your heart! if you think you would feel comfortable, then go for it! if not then dont.. personally i wouldn't mind seeing a guy working at nail salon....... it's cute.......... :P.... but it's about what you think! gl ! if you think it's gay and weid then u dont have to. do something else instead! if u dont like something ur not gonna do well in it. u have to have some kind of passion n interest in it.
well, I think it is wonderful, and totally not a gay job - why wouldn't a guy want to be surrounded by girls as a girl, I would rather have a guy pamper me than a girl anyway. Where i come from there is a nail salon called Nailz by Malez. it is always packed. the guys are good looking and take great care of the customers. none of the catty gossip or bitching like a regular salon...
so if your friends have a problem with it, ignore them, and just smile at all the numbers you can get and the girls you get to meet.

well, its a stigma really. The first impression people will get of you is that you're ';fruity';. But i mean if thats what you like, then go ahead. Besides, if you dress like a guy, people won't think you're gay or anything. Sometimes you got to not care about what others think and do your own thing! What other think of you will only hold you back from what you want to do!
Are you Vietnamese? If not, then I think it's not so good... Vietnamese people have the market on nail salons. Try being a server or something easier maybe office work etc... Have some pride!
Shallow people would look at it as ';gay'; but if you're confident about your sexuality there shouldn't be a problem.
most nail salons around me are run by asians and there are always men in there working on nails, it seems that everybody is related in some way.
i think its a good way to work on social skills and make money

It depends on what kind of nails your talking about. I worked for a real posh lumber store and sold all types of nails... No, seriously don't think that way (gay), rather think of all the fun answers you can give your friends when they ask why you work at the shop!!

Hey don't laugh, in my day I elected home economics (something all girls did) just to check out the chicks and I turned out to be a pretty good cook while I was at it! Besides, if your making money while they slave that means you work smarter not harder!

All these statements about it being gay are based on outdated, sexist role assignment. If you know how to give good manicures, I say do it. If someone says you're gay for doing it, tell them ';I hang around pretty women all day ... what do you do?';
And I bet all those ladies will be so charmed by a cute young guy doing their nails that you'll get lots of nice tips!
And your employer will probably also treat you better than the local Burger King manager or construction foreman.

i went to a high school of 4,000+ and the town wasn't too big so every where you went you saw people you knew. anyways, i was on the competition cheerleading squad for my high school and we had like 6 straight guys from the varsity football team on our squad. the boys were very popular with the ladies and hooked up with a lot of cheerleaders! so go for it! do what you gotta do!
Not if you're secure in your sexuality. And, it would probably be a way to meet some fairly hot...hands and feet. Girls like guys that are confident in who they are, without being arrogant. If you're not afraid of working in a nail salon and stay cool about it, it will show and you'll be doing a Tag body spray commercial. But if you're afraid, they'll eat you alive.
